Does it matter if i have an intel or amd cpu

Im going to Upgrade my cpu.
I havent decided yet if i go for ryzen oder Intel.
Does it matter what cpu mmanufacturer you have?

If youre upgrading the cpu then if you have an intel cpu now you can buy an intel cpu only otherwise you have to buy a new motherboard for amd cpu's
